Antediluvians V. Cobras-June 9, 2018
Saturday June 9th the Calgary Cobras RFC played the Antediluvians RFC at the Lynn Davies Rugby Fields. It was a great day of old boys rugby. The Cobras had their A team and game working for them. They showed some strong offensive runs and ball handling as they romped in for a few trys, and some good defensive play and tackling. The Antediluvians had some good runs with the help of Randy Nyvoll and Mr. Game (son of Brian Game who was out tossing the ball around with his grandson for 3 generations out for the day), our imports from the Lep-Tigers RFC old boys. As all old boys officially finish, it was a tie.
The weather was warm, the barbecue was hot, and the beer was cold, as the lads enjoyed some post game beverages and watched the Druids Men’s Premium Division boys play to a win over the visiting Calgary Saints RFC. It was a good warm up for the Canada- Scotland International Men’s rugby game that followed that night at Commonwealth Stadium. We had a couple of busses to take us from the Druids RFC to Commonwealth Stadium and back, which worked out well.
The Canada-Scotland game had approximately 12,000 people in attendance. The game started close with the two teams testing each other out. Scotland proved their strength in the scrum, and showed show great offensive flair and tenacious tackling. The game was close at 22-10 for Scotland in the first 60 minutes. Scotland surged to a final score of 48-10. A great day for rugby in Edmonton!
